PROCEDURE FOR USING THE AUTOMATIC EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR AED

1 Check if the victim is conscious.

2 Check surrounding conditions and ask for help.

  • Call an ambulance by dialing 119.

  • Check for an AED nearby.

3 Check immediately if breathing.

  • Check if there is movement in the chest and / or abdomen, “Check if breathing is normal,” in less than 10 seconds.

4 If the victim is not breathing, or breathing is not normal.

  • (A) Make external chest compressions 30 times – The right place to do the compressions is in the middle of the chest.

  • (B) Do artificial respiration (mouth to mouth) 2 times, about 1 second at a time, perform enough artificial respiration that you can check the movement of the chest (In infants and / or toddlers, breathe over the nose and mouth at the same time, in adults close the nostrils by pushing the nose between thumb and forefinger).

  • Continue with procedures A and B, until the AED or the ambulance arrives.

  • Even with the arrival of the AED, do not stop doing compressions and breathing (CPR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Portuguese Pulmonary), ask for someone else to make preparations for the use of AEDs. (AED in Japanese).

5 Turning on the AED.

  • There are devices that connect automatically upon opening the lid.

6 Follow the instructions the device makes sonically.

  • Paste the electrodes.

And also, in case the area where the electrode must be pasted has hair, one must shave area with the aid of a blade or tape, the electrode may be pasted only after the area is completely clean.

  • In children under 6 years old pediatric (children) electrodes must be used. If you do not have the appropriate electrode, the electrode can be used for adults.

7 While the unit prepares the electrocardiogram, suspend chest compressions.

  • Careful not to touch the victim while the EKG is performed.

8 Apply the electric shock.

  • If the device concludes automatically that defibrillation needs to charge (the battery), follow the instructions carefully.

  • Make sure that no one is in direct contact with the victim and press the button that is flashing.

  • After these steps, follow the voice instructions given by the AED equipment.

  • This procedure shall be performed until it is pursued by the ambulance attendant, or until the victim shows signs of normal behavior. (Eg reluctance procedures are performed), or until breathing returns to normal.

  • Procedures should be applied in cycle 4 → 5 → 7 → 8 → nonstop or until the ambulance arrives or breathing returns to normal.
